Choosing between a steel or aluminium Ute tray depends on your individual needs and priorities. Steel offers superior strength, durability and affordability, making it ideal for heavy-duty use and harsh environments. However, its weight can reduce fuel efficiency and payload capacity, and it requires regular maintenance to prevent rust.
On the other hand, aluminium is lightweight, corrosion-resistant and low maintenance, boosting fuel efficiency and payload capacity. Yet, it's not as strong as steel, and it's slightly more susceptible to damage from heavy loads.
Ultimately, the best material for your ute tray depends on your requirements and preferences. Consider factors such as your ute's intended use, the types of loads you'll be carrying and your budget to make an informed decision.
The weight of an aluminium Ute tray typically ranges from 100 to 200 kilograms, depending on its size, design and included features. This makes them significantly lighter than other materials — resulting in improved fuel efficiency, increased payload capacity and easier handling.
Aluminium Ute trays are inherently resistant to rust, which is a significant advantage over other metals. When exposed to air, aluminium forms a protective oxide layer that prevents it from rusting. This makes these trays ideal for use in harsh environments, such as coastal areas or regions with high humidity, where rust can be a major concern.
However, while the aluminium itself won't rust, it's important to note that any steel components, such as bolts or fasteners, may still be susceptible to corrosion if not properly coated or maintained. To ensure the longevity and rust-free performance of your aluminium Ute tray, regularly clean it with mild soap and water, rinse it thoroughly and dry it completely. Additionally, applying a protective coating or wax can further enhance its resistance to corrosion and keep it looking its best.
